A Day Trip: Capri, Italy
Going to the Amalfi Coast in 2024? Looking to plan a perfect day trip to the glamorous and enchanting island of Capri?
Here is your Day Trip Guide to Capri!
Upon Arrival Island of Capri:
You arrive at Marina Grande – Capri Town is on the next level, Ana Capri is further up the Island and Marina Piccolo is around the other side.
Starting at the Marina Grande Docks, as you face the town – look to your right and walk toward a large white building, which is a beautiful restaurant. Toward your right, you will see lines forming for bus/funicular tickets. Buses on Capri are minibusses that carry about 10 passengers seated.
Funicular is a separate ticket of about 2.50E which takes you to the actual town of Capri. It is advised that you purchase R/T tickets for Funicular and Busses.
Pro Tip: Keep your ticket on you, they do check
Marina Grande: You can arrange for taxi tours of the island; walking tours; a boat tour around the island and a visit to the famous Blue Grotto. You will have to transfer from a larger boat into a row boat and duck your head to get into the cave! The boat ride is relaxing and worth it; many sights are pointed out by the guide. There are guided bus/walking tours available as well about 25E per person.
To go up to Capri Town you can take the Funicular. It is right behind all the docks, built into the “walls” of the village. Or take the bus - the ride is spectacular and crowded – and better than any roller coaster you’ve been on! When you get to Capri Town: All the designer shops Gucci, Fendi and more are here.
Walk to The Gardens of Augustus and view the Faraglioni – famous landmark rocks, terrific restaurants, and the Church of San Salvatore. From there, it is a 5-minute walk to visit the Monastery of St. Giacomo!
From there, for our travelers who love to explore with their own two feet, take a 45-minute hike to Villa Jovis – ruins of one of Tiberius’ 12 palaces dating back to 1st Century AD.
For those travelers who want to relax, make sure to make a stop at Marina Piccolo: Beaches and clubs where you can rent a lounge chair, or cabana, have lunch, and swim near the Faraglioni – really La Gioia Vita!
Ana Capri: Take the bus from Capri Town – another spectacular and thrilling bus ride. You will find, lovely shops that are much more affordable. Visit Villa San Michele - built by a doctor Axel Munthe 1890-1910, which is said to be, one of the sites of Tiberius’ villas; with beautiful gardens, views, and a lovely interior design. Expect to spend about 6€s to enter the exquisite villa.
Mount Solaro is a chairlift that brings you up the mountain with more spectacular views.
Lido di Faro (Punta Carena) – can be reached via bus from Anacapri, thought it is faster by taxi! It is a beautiful place to spend the day swimming and enjoying lunch at the main restaurant. The pool side afternoon will take the up the entire day, completely worth it!
